Did You Know?

-Did you know FIU’s Student Government Association is in charge of a 10+ million dollar budget?

-Did you know that this revenue increased by nearly $700,000 from 2006-2007, to 2007-2008?

-Did you know that in the 2006-2007 Budget, the Multi-Faith Council was issued $6,700 (which was to be shared between all faith groups, including but not limited to: Hillel, Chabad, Campus Crusade for Christ, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Youth for Christ, Intervarsity, Catholic Student Campus Ministries, etc).

-Did you know that in the 2007-2008 budget, SGA cut the Multi-Faith Council from $6,700 the previous year, to $5,500. That’s a 22% budget cut, nearly a quarter, of about $1,200. This is to be shared between all the above mentioned groups for free trips to Israel, Retreats, Dinners, Luncheons, Speaker events, and events aimed at the student body.

-Did you know the Multi-Faith Council cannot even afford to have an intern in their office, leading to a lack of office usage because of budget restraints?

-Did you know that the budget for the Greek Council (Which Includes National Pan-Hellenic, Panhellenic Council, and Interfraternity Council which get money from membership dues) was $54,000 in 2006-2007, and was increased 12% ($7,000) in the 2007-2008 to $61,000?

-The constituents of the Multi-Faith Council are the entire university and all of it’s faith-related activities. The Greek offic’s constituency are Greeks. This is not, in ANY way, an anti fraternity group, but we seek to increase the Multi-Faith Council’s budget to a reasonable amount, and make people aware of fair funding in SGA.

-The current funds do not allow all these multiple groups to properly reach out to students, increase membership, and initiate new and invigorating programs. This group, FSFFF, is made up of students who support Multi-Council Budget increases, and will vote for SGA Representatives who will pledge to champion this cause and support a budget increase.

-In the end, we will ask, is a -22% ($1,200) budget cut to the Multi-Faith Council (having an overall budget increase of nearly $700,000) fair considering there is enough money to increase the Greek Affairs Office (which is privately funded), by $7,000?
